Tissage d’Histoires
April 2009 – Kigali, Rwanda
Témoin is worked in partnership with France's Compagnie Traversière and Kigali-based organization Never Again Rwanda to develop its Youth Theatre Program, giving young activists the skills they need to engage audiences and spread their message of reconciliation and peace.
In March we worked with Traversière and NAR's professional theatre troupe, "One Family," to devise "Ni Inya Buri Wese," an original piece dealing with the realities of post-conflict communities in Rwanda. The piece was created for the 2nd Annual NAR Theatre Festival and was performed at the Genocide Memorial Center in Gisozi as well as three other Kigali venues in the weekend before the commemoration period. In April Témoin's artists developed a theatre curriculum, "Communicating Through Theatre," which emphasizes basic theatre skills and actor-generated story creation. The CTT curriculum is being delivered in NAR high school youth clubs during 2009/2010, and students from the youth clubs will be devising pieces for the 3rd Annual NAR Theatre festival next April.
A full-length documentary, "Theatre in Kigali - Youth Initiatives," covering our work with NAR's Theatre Program is being screened in France and the USA in 2010.
