Témoin does TEDx

As part of The Return Project in 2012, we worked with a group of former child combatants to stage “Hozwa Mwana w’u Rwanda”, a fantastical fairy tale scripted by young men at the Child Rehabilitation Centre in Musanze, Rwanda. The hero of this project was Mahirwe (“Chance”), the archetypical child soldier created by one of the young artists, whose simple yet powerfully poetic story managed to shine through a mess of red tape and propaganda. At TEDx Lausanne, Switzerland, this year, Témoin’s Artistic Director Ailin Conant shared the story of this project, and some of the things we learned about the advantages of using storytelling as a tool for communicating around difficult experience.
